A facelift (also known as meloplasty, rhytidectomy or facial rejuvenation) repositions and removes loose tissue from your cheek and upper neck so that the contour and shape of your face appears more youthful and refreshed.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, and can take between 4 to 6 hours, depending on the procedure you choose.
We carefully make an incision which runs from your temple, in front of your ear, behind the ear. If appropriate, Dr Kwon will dissect in the "deep plane", under the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) to contour and support your face.
You may choose to undergo other procedures to help rejuvenate your face at the same time, this may include a brow or temple lift, fat grafting, skin resurfacing or eyelid surgery.
Usually the surgery is not very painful, but this varies from person to person. Simple pain relief such as Paracetamol should help with the discomfort. You can expect there may be some brusing and swelling around the face, this tends to be most severe at 3-4 days after surgery, before starting to settle.
We advise 2-3 weeks off work, longer if you do physical work. You may return to the gym at 4 weeks after surgery. The swelling will take 6-12 months to fully settle.
There are risks associated with any surgery, and Dr Kwon will discuss these you at your consultation.
A face and neck lift is approximately $25,000 to $35,000 depending on what exactly is required. This includes the surgeon's fee, hospital fees and anaesthetic fees.
